3 Podcasts To Add To Your Playlist

Three years ago while on a work trip in Los Angeles I mentioned to my friend Sam, that I wished YouTube had an audio version because with my schedule I don't always have time to watch videos. That's when she recommended I subscribe to a few podcasts. At the time, I had no idea what a podcast even was. She said, "it's like a pre-recorded radio station".

Here's a better definition. A podcast is a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.

What I really love about a podcast is that they're downloadable. Once you save them you can listen to them anywhere and on the go; which is awesome for this subway-riding NYC girl. In addition to reading and watching YouTube videos, I found podcasts to be extremely helpful in my day to day life; they're especially great if you're looking to make some real lifestyle changes.

So here they are, My Top 3 Podcasts I'm loving right now...

Coming in at #3: The Food Heaven Podcast

If you're moving to a more plant-based diet or just all around healthier lifestyle, then The Food Heaven Podcast is perfect for you. The podcast is hosted by BFFs and registered dietitians, Wendy Jones and Jessica Lopez of Food Heaven Made Easy. They discuss topics ranging from choosing safer beauty and body products to understanding gestational diabetes. Their podcasts usually last between 10-30 minutes and they're educational and fun to listen to.

Coming in at #2: The Marie Forleo Podcast

Marie Forleo is the epitome of a #GirlBoss. From running a successful business to being one of Oprah's Super Soul 100, she's truly an inspiration, especially to entrepreneurs. I started following Marie about three years ago on her YouTube channel MarieTV and was excited to find out that she created a podcast version of the same name. On the quick subject of YouTube, I definitely recommend that you guys check out Marie's YouTube channel. Not only does she have great visual graphics, but her videos are both informative and funny (not the easiest thing to accomplish in my opinion lol). Her podcasts are packed with inspiring and motivating conversations that are great for listening on the go. Her topics range from "Networking for Introverts" to "How to Start Over When Things Fall Apart". The podcasts vary from 60-minute interviews to quick 9-minute motivational pick-me-ups.

And Coming in at #1: Black Girl In Om

This podcast came into my life when I was searching for a place to learn how to heal myself and practice better self-love. I don't think that was a coincidence seeing that Black Girl In Om is all about promoting holistic wellness and self-care empowerment for women of color. I highly recommend you check out their website. The podcast is hosted by its founder Lauren Ash and art director Deun Ivory. They cover topics like "How to Be Confident" to "Living Thoughtfully and with Intention". The episodes usually run from 45 minutes to an hour, and you can easily lose track of time listening to them. I can't tell you how many times I've almost missed my stop on the subway because I get so lost in the conversation; mainly because their voices are so soothing and engaging (they have great radio voices lol). These ladies will make you laugh and sometimes even cry (in a good soul cleansing way), but I promise each episode will leave you feeling lighter and breathing a little easier.

So if you're new to the podcast space, I think any one of these are a great place to start. If you're a veteran when it comes to podcasts, and you've been about that podcast life, I still say these will make great additions to your playlist. So head on over to iTunes and give 'em a listen :)
