Anassa Taverna–NYC Restaurant Week


Hey Foodie Fam,
It's that time of Year, NYC Restaurant Week. What is Restaurant Week?
Restaurant Week in New York City is when some the finest restaurants offer Prix Fix lunches
and dinners at a fraction of the usual prices. The event is held in early winter (January/February) and summer (June/July).

Every year I pull out my list of restaurants I been dying to try (but are a bit on the pricey side) and I choose to go to one during restaurant week. The restaurants that participate usually have an entree of $35+ and most Prix meals are $42+ (that includes an appetizer, entree, and desert) so what you would normally pay for one entree you get in a three-course meal. 

This year I chose Anassa Taverna, a Greek restaurant located near 59th and Lexington. 

For a starter, the restaurant offered a complimentary order of fresh bread and hummus. This hummus was so good! So good I did the  “food-so-good-I-gotta-dance" dance. It was creamy and had the right amount of garlic. 

I order the Greek salad. It was good, nothing that blew me away. It wasn’t until Jay, my Foodie Sister told me to take the tomatoes, sliced them up, place them on top of the freshly baked bread, add the feta, some olive oil and there you have it- a whole new dish. Yes, I know it sounds like a lot of work. I promise it’s worth it!

Main Entree
I ordered the Filet of Red Snapper with Caramelized Risotto. The Snapper was cooked to perfection! The lemon sauce was perfect! The Risotto was creamy and had a cheesy taste. It was a good side dish; however, it was a bit too heavy for the fish. Jay ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops served with roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus. Of course, I did the infamous “you-want-some-of-my-dish-so-I-can-taste-some-of-yours?” Luckily, Jay is a foodie so she understands and gladly shared. The chops were moist and tender. I would have preferred to have the roasted potatoes with my Snapper. 

For dessert, I ordered the Galaktoboureko. The Phyllo Dough crust was perfectly golden brown and flaky. It was filled with a creamy custard bathed in orange, lemon syrup. It was the perfect level of sweetness for anyone with a sweet tooth.
